    Sharks in Lake Macquarie.

Have a look at this clip of a juvenile 2.5metre long Great White shark swimming in 2 feet of water at Murray's Beach on southern Lake Macquarie. Apparently it was chasing bait fish so I guess if you think you are safe in 2 feet of water, think again.

Shark sightings have been increasing in the lake since they stopped professional fishing ten years ago. I guess the lake is returning to it's previous "normal" state prior to Europeans settling in the area.

Yes - there have been lots of Great Whites sightings in the lake for a few years - they have learned to follow fishermen and steal their fish.

The sightings to date have been of juvenile Great Whites but some have been getting bigger. In theory, at the size sighted they are still eating fish and have not switched to eating mammals but who knows. There was a sighting up near the 16 Footer a few months back and it was nearly 3 meters so at the size where they switch.

The Council needs to start improving the shark proof swimming enclosures that fell into disrepair while commercial fishing was allowed.

I heard it was feeding on mullets, some of the locals will need to be extra careful.

A bloke was killed in knee deep water by a great white a couple of years ago at Scarbourough beach in Perth. Would have taken a child whole

Supposed to be a Great White nursery along the Hunter coast
Great white shark nursery off Hunter coast? | Newcastle Herald

I used to go surfing way out off Stockton beach when they allowed camping there. Not any more

A couple of blokes used to fish for Great white off Stockton beach from a swivel seat attached to the bullbar on a cruiser. One of them would paddle out past the breakers with a Salmon on a surfboard.
