if the tinted visor came with the helmet, it would be legal (for daytime use) as that visor is tested and certified.

in SA its illegal to wear a tinted visor at night (and for good reason)

i had finished work much later than i was expecting to, so i rode home with my visor up. cop pulled me over. he was a reasonable guy and saw i was trying to do the right thing, so he let me off with a warning. a can see other cops not being so reasonable and just writing the fine.

Surely if the visor meets ADRs and Australian compliance this is a misinterpretation of the law by the police officer?
So what happens if your helmet has a tinted visor as standard like mine?
Some tinted visors are much safer than clear and a lot are suitable for night riding. I know I have one and can see as good at night as with a clear one, actually better as it reduces headlight glare.

All visors must now have AS 1609 stamped on them and tinted can only be used during daylight not at night. With a modified helmet(visor) there are 2 choices to book us with no helmet or wearing a helmet not to AU standards
so be nice and maybe a warning argue and its the biggest fine they can give you
If your visor has a sticker and it wears off visor becomes illegal that's why many visors have the AS number stamped into them

In Vic - much like most States I would imagine - you can use a tinted visor that has the Australian Standard markings on it if it is a factory item that the helmet manufacturer made, but only during daylight hours.

Although I think it is very petty that he got booked, that visor is very dark and would have attracted some attention. As it is not an approved visor, he is technically breaching the law.

That would mean a strip of tape across the visor as a sun shield would also be considered illegal as it has been "modified"

just get a 'legal' quarter wave coated visor......it looks like a mirror, just like a camera lens.

you can ride at night with it and it always appears clear , not dark

Got a link at all? I'd be interested in one if they are legal. The only legal visors I've found aren't coated like that, they are just a normal tint.
