Last weekend, an Australian woman broke a record that was set by an American woman in 2010. The record was 195.33km and has been raised to 201.75km.
While the annual Burley Griffin Canoe Club 24 Hour Challenge was running on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December, Anjie Lees paddled solo and set a new (yet to be ratified) world record for the greatest distance paddled by a female in 24 hours on flat water.

I paddled in the event, but in a team of three, so I was only on the water for total of about 8 of the 24 hours. However, I did get to paddle in the particular downpour that included some light hail.
Paddling for 24 hours in good conditions takes a bit of determination. I did it a couple of times when I was about 30 years younger. To do it in several hours of pouring rain at the speed Anjie maintained is quite impressive. A well deserved world record.
For those with access to WIN TV Canberra, there is supposed to be some footage of the event on the news tonight, 9th December.
