It says Xtreme on the paperwork. Typical Defender owners wouldn't want the stickers I reckon.

To remove, I heated them up with a very powerful light and peeled off. Cleaned up the gunk with meths. Perfect.

Assuming you are wanting a capable 4x4 and look to be going offroad a fair bit, the $10k you might save on a 'base' Jap 4x4 will be consumed in getting it on par with the Defender.

IMHO the Series II Disco TD5 is a bargin at the moment. For most occasions offroad it will keep pace with a Defender. Have a chat with Kev0004, he has just swapped his '01 Fender (very nice) for a '04 Disco (very nice as well).

By the way, I do not mind the 'Xtreme' stickers. The 'xtreme Defender always had a bit dual personality (with alloys, colours etc) and the stickers just added to that character. I would keep them on, given that you will not be able to buy them again they might add some value. Bit like the old 'Game' in the late '70s but certaintly nowhere near as rare.

Good points Tim.

I am also pointing out the virtues of the "old" Disco. Bargains to be had!

Swapping accessorised 4WDs every three years is a bit of a strain on the $, but nice if you can do it!

When all said and done, the new Disco is a beautiful and extremely capable vehicle. But for the money, I would be getting the Disco II. Tried and proven, well sorted in terms of known problems and for most people just as capable.

While I am amazed by the technology in the D3, I would remain plan scared in a remote situation with one. Travelling alone there would not be much peace of mind...

The best advice I was ever given was to never buy the first series in a new model. Let them work out the problems....

No I don't think so, as a LR owner I've always had a thin wallet.

hes done it before, hes gone and bought the entire shipment of a particular vehicle and all other dealers had to buy off him, so obviously couldnt match his price.

he is clever in that respect and can afford to buy stock.

I did a ring around myself this morning and I think my earlier post should now read "Could actually".

It seems remaining disco stock is now sought after and dealers are hanging out for full price on what they have left, particularly as the dealers are not officially selling D3's until April I'm told.

Runout disco's were advertised by LR for $45k about 3 weeks ago. They were base spec manuals, i.e. not Town or Country. One dealer said today that he wished LR would stop advertising stock they have not had for a long time.

Interestingly 1 long established dealer had stopped selling Land Rover and stock levels at the others was minimal.

Got to admit I'm having serious doubts about buying another LR product.

I would never have any doubts about buying LR, but then I don't buy mine new, or even close to it.

By the way noddy, you mention the game, I saw one for sale for $1200. Would love to pick that up for a resto job. Ahhh if only there wasn't so many other things in line before it. :cry:
