In South Australia the central traffic control computer cancels the lights request if the vehicle leaves the sensor before the phase is initiated. Other states may of course have inferior systems.:pQuote:

That doesn't surprise me, the stingy gummit in NSW wouldn't cough up the coin to put that system in. That's a great idea, because as I drive a bus for a living and working to a timetable, it is VERY frustrating for me to be sitting at a red light for no reason.Quote:

Of course you realise traffic lights are always on red more than green.

Isn't SCAT the word they use in Africa to describe what bush animals leave behind them?
If so that certainly describes the system WA uses to hold up traffic....no rhyme nor reason for the long delays at most lights except so called "safety".....a stopped car is less likely to be involved in an accident! :p
As for even considering letting the average local use his own judgement!!!! Don't be daft, we see the results of that in the road fatality figures.

The intersection nearest me has a 'left turn permitted after stopping' sign, and I can tell you if cars go through turning left it won't trigger the lights. I know this as my bike won't trigger the lights if I'm going straight ahead and wish the left turning people would set off the lights. I've even had to jump off and run across to push the walk button.Quote:

As for WA drivers being shocking, discotwinturbo, I spent two weeks in October/November this year and have been there quite a bit and find them much better than Sydney or Melbourne drivers. Maybe they just give me a wide berth due to my interstate plates. My brother who has lived there since the mid 70s warned me about 'heavy traffic'. We laughed at Perth's 'heavy traffic'.
