By my experience the Tsunami warning in the banana state AKA Queensland it is useless.
Back in 2010 I was building my home which was situated 300meters from the beach.
A warning was issued in Bundaberg and Bargara beach was closed but not one of the residents in Moore Park Beach (20 km north of Bargara )new about it.
IMO if it happens in the future it will be a catastrophe and only those in high ground will be ok.
What we need is a little bit of perspective.
Eastern Australia a tsunami hotspot ? News in Science (ABC Science)Quote:
Australia has experienced 145 tsunamis, and in the past 130 years this has resulted in 11 deaths, a new study suggests.
Well , I'm on high ground , but not 450mtrs above sea level.
If a tsunami comes towards the gold coast you can park your land rover on my back block.
I just look forward to the projected 4m sea level rise and the gold coast will be a few hundred metres away.
Maybe then I can claim extortionist prices for beach front land
That's my theory.
We are just outside the highest town in QLD, with global warming etc I expect to make a huge profit on the place when we are eventually on the sea front.:D
Oh! Problem, if the sea gets up to 800m there won't be many people left to buy my place:confused:

If we ever get the 4m ocean rise , will Lake Eyre backfill?
It would be gargantuous.
