Well. I have just changed my product. I am now selling plastic containers. Rather expensive plastic containers. It just so happens these containers may or may not contain raw milk. Now the nanny state will have to introduce another piece of legislation to cover that example. And on it goes.

Mick, remember when the eggboard took one producer to court because he was selling cheap eggs on the farm gates?
I do not not if it is a nanny state but it is over regulated for sure.

You are right Mick, all these laws are silly and we should remove them, while we are at it we can remove all the other silly laws like:

Wearing seatbelts
Not letting kids ride in the back of utes
Helmet laws (all of them)
Smoking and passive smoking laws
Disinfection of drinking water and all other beverages and foodstuffs
Driving under the influence laws
etc...

Ben!! that is not fair, I would like to grow the funny weeds in my back yard and not be forced to send my kids to primary school :D

Now, seriously, we have to agree that we have some over the top regulations like the one about not be able to have more than 6 chooks in the back yard and give the eggs away.
There are others that we must have for the protection of the rest of the population. Vaccination come to my mind but then again that it is on another thread :D

Now I know you are being facetious.
It's interesting, though, we''d probably save more lives if we banned the sale of raw chicken meat. My mother has been carted off to hospital on at least three different occasions, nearly died on one of those occasions, because of consumption of shellfish. Perhaps we should ban those. I'm tipping more people die from the consumption of shellfish than from the consumption of raw milk.

Anyways, we are side tracking more and more from my main point. We do not need another superfluous law when justice can be seen to be done under existing laws. We do not need the nanny state to be over regulating us to death.

These laws only exist because we have free healthcare. The only one that is of contention is smoking because it raises more revenue than it costs to treat.
While the government supplies free healthcare it has the right to mitigate the risk. It does this by passing safety related legislation.
Water, and foodstuffs are an international standard we agree to follow.

Why do you think you don't have to wear a helmet in the states (well some states)? because the government isn't paying for your stupidity.

Mick, there are VERY stringent laws on preparing oysters for sale.

In NSW all Oysters have to be depurated ( starved and held in known pure water) for 3 days before being sold or shucked.

Every estuary has to have a Management plan which states action to be taken after rain events. Typically there has to be a moratorium on harvest for up to 10 days plus depuration.

When the system breaks down as it did in Wallace Lake many years ago the results are dire. And the oyster growers were depurating but the water had e coli in it.

So I guess Nanny State again.

Perhaps it have nothing to do with cooking and it is in the way that the raw chicken is been handled.
How many people wash/rinse the chicken pieces before preparing them for cooking?
Many? well they are wrong, that is one of the best way to spread the bacteria on other utensils, kitchen bench, cutlery or even in your hands.
The best way to kill the bacteria is by cooking the chicken without washing it first.
