I was never aware that it cost so much to run and thought the ads would cover it. I even click on the ads, not because I am interested but because I thought that earned funds for the site.

You are one of the few who isn't using an ad blocker these days by the sound of it and I commend you for doing your part and clicking on some ads. Ad revenue has been decreasing for some time due to people using ad blockers.

Trust me when I tell you that this decision was agonised over for a long time. If everyone clicked on a few ads each day, it may not have been necessary to go down this path, but alas, that is not the case.

To be honest Bacicat, I didn't even know ad blockers existed. I guess this points to my naivety about all things IT.

I've just paid mine through the aulro subscription system (not a direct debit). Does anyone know if I still need to send Dave any details or is it automatically assigned if done direct through the site?

Bloody small price to pay for the amount of procrastinating the forum enables!

If you payed by paypal it automatically re instated your permissions.

Facts you say, which facts are you referring to ?

The fact that this site has been free for the last 12 or so years,

The fact that the hardware costs tens of thousands of dollars to purchase,

The fact that the bandwidth/air time (what ever is the correct name for it) costs hundreds of dollars per month,

The fact that the owner/administrator and the moderators spend a huge number of hours trying to keep the site up to a certain standard (and that is G rated) and available 24/7/365. Their remuneration for this - ZERO.

The fact that site ads help pay for the upkeep and increasingly more Ad-blockers are being used thus limiting income to the owner,

The fact that a large percentage of those saying "CYA" are not supporting or prepared to support a resource they have had the benefit of for years. And when I say benefit, this includes not only the financial side of things but also the physical as well. There would be very few (if any) people on this site that have not developed a friendship with a like minded Landy nut in some form or another because of their involvement with THIS forum.

The fact that non-subscribing member are limited in what they can see and do is the whole point. It is only $11.00 a year FFS.

Personally, to those choosing not to subscribe, thank you for any past input to the site and I hope you do return. I feel better now

, I might go and have a cup of tea.
