    Can't convince anyone with that...

    TD5 Top Coolant hose-Urgent
Is there anyone in Perth that has a Top Coolant hose for a 2001 Discovery TD5.
I just lost the bleed screw, so have had a close call today.
Unfortunately, this car is my only means of transport, so am stuck until I can get a new hose.
Am in Ellenbrook, so name your price if you can help me.

    Hi Greg.
ANY fine thread screw will work. The original plastic retaining thread in the hose will be already ruined.Just find a screw that will screw into the hole and hold.Wrap with insulation tape around the hose, and it will last forever,or until you get that new hose
    Goodluck

Thanks Andrew, I thought you would come on with a fix.
Have done as you suggest, with a bit of thread tape and a bit of sealer where a washer would go. As well as holding the bolt down with a bit of tape, I've also put a hose clamp over the top.
Looks like my subscription this morning, has paid for itself already.

    Greg,

You can buy anodised aluminium replacements from Paddock Spares in the UK. They are only a couple so quid each (you need two). Then you can take them with you when/if you replace the hoses again.

Engine Saver supplies the bleed screw with his low coolant sensor built in.I ran a few pre production models on my D2 for him, they work a bloody treat.
The issue with the hose is it has a plastic insert with a thread that decays with age and they break. The bleed screw only needs to be finger tight.

If the insert in the hose fails here is a way of fixing it.

This has been on mine now for 15 months. Mine failed on a weekend and I needed the car.

I found a whitworth thread bolt, half inch from memory (wanted a coarse thread that would bite and hold in the rubber.) then drilled and tapped the appropriate thread.

The following Monday I ordered a new hose with the intention of fitting it.

As I had full confidence in the repair and it seemed to be holding ok, I decided to leave it and just carry the spare.

i reckon this is better than original, as I now have a steel thread and not plastic.

Maybe a nice crisp USD 10 in a plain envelope will cover it, or some snap frozen souvlaki's

Lebanon, if your stuck i will shout you, the Bank Fees will be horrendous by any other means.
Thank you AndyG for your concern and offer, but Incisor helped in sorting the issue, I would like to thank him publicly for that. A true gentleman.

As for the Souvlaki that are called locally Mechoui, I will not be able to send them by airmail them since they are marinated in olive oil and wild thyme. The best option would be sending the entire lamb alive

I will also send 10 Kgs of Garlic, it will serve two issues, first keeping vampires away and second preparing garlic cream. (Those two small cups on the upper right hand of the picture)

I've been off this site for most of the past 8 months, so missed all the dramas. Got on and paid for a year's subscription this morning. Simply the best forum I have every been a member of. Keep up the good work, Dave.

basic cost vs gain and Im in front, by a long way.

    heres the chase.

its not $11 to access a forum, its a fee to access a barter trade system.
Here's a slightly alternative view. A lot are concentrating on the pittance $11 is in comparison to what is gained by a resource like AULRO. I don't disagree.

I'll hazzard a guess here. For the majority, it won't be about $11. It won't be about the principal. It won't be about views on the value of information or help garnered. Of the 18k members, for 70, 80, 90%, the'll fade out or go somewhere else. They'll have the answer to a question that's been asked in a thread, go to reply and find that they can't. They'll search for a thread that they read earlier and find that they can't. Some will then subscribe. Most won't.

So what you've achieved is not cutting off 70% of the ingrate. You cut off 70% of your user base. Of your experience. Of your 'barter system'. A quiet forum is a dead forum, no matter how good the intentions are.

As an aside, I wonder what the renewal rate of the vendors will be in 12 months when the user base is 20-30% of what it once was.

Commercially, there may have been better alternatives. A sticky at the top of each sub-forum highlighting the benefits of subscribing. To be honest, when I joined, I went straight to the D3-D4 section and I've never left there. This is my first post outside of that section and had honestly forgotten about subscription till the site appeared broken and I got the moderator message at the top of the screen this morning.

A donation drive done quarterly with a donated prize (eg traxide or something similar) would earn plenty and keep the need to support a local forum in front of people's minds. There are plenty of ways.

Munting peoples access is never the answer. None of the above is said in malice and it's not intended as a whinge. I'll go subscribe now, but my fear is that we'll lose more than we gained by cutting off the 'freeloaders'.

disco4.co.uk and their supporting vendors will probably thank you though...

    Cheers,

    G
