What sort of content is there ?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

We had one at a remote work camp in the '70's ???? around Boulia ??? (a while ago Andy, sorry) & all we got was Radio Aus. in Pidgin for your whereabouts. Learnt it to some degree because of that
I'm sure things would be different now although, from memory of other posts from you, the terrain where you are might be an issue.
Steve
It has a great deal to do with how much you spend.
Here is a link to a Forum I frequent (no pun).
You will find heaps of helpful info there.
Shortwave Broadcast - The RadioReference.com Forums
that depends on your antenna.
it doesn't have to be high but different lengths work better at different frequencies in different "bands"
if your antenna is 1/4 the wave length of the "band" you are tuned into you will get good reception. 1/2 wave better.
all short wave transmissions are done in a certain "band" so optimum antenna length changes as you change your band.
if you don't have radio knowledge it would be best to google what I'm talking about.
