Perhaps one of the reasons that it does not really matter is that figures I have seen quoted suggest that only a tiny percentage of those caught have BAC figures between 0.05 and 0.08 - almost all are well over both figures.
And more relevant than simulated driving tests is the statistical evidence. Random breath test campaigns invariably show well under 1% of those tested are above the limit. This figure is remarkably low, especially when we consider that many of these campaigns are not truly random - they happen when and where intoxicated drivers can reasonably be expected, for example on NY mornings, Christmas Eve etc.
If we then compare this figure of <1% with the results of the mandatory blood tests of all drivers involved in fatal accidents, we find that, depending on where the figures come from, 20-40% of these drivers are above the legal BAC limit.
Surely the fact that real life experience shows a fatal accident is more than ten times as likely above the limit is more convincing than any amount of simulated driving tests. This should also answer the question as to the major 'cause' of road accidents, especially if those suffering from impairment by other drugs for which there is less statistical data are added.
Worth noting that NSW has just announced the lowest road toll since 1923. Interesting to compare with Victoria, which showed an increase last year, despite closer tolerances on speed cameras.

I would like to know what the readings were on a lot of these. I would expect a lot would be well over .08
This is just an opinion as I have no stats to back it up, but I don't reckon there would be many crashes actually caused by someone at .07
In Vic, we all know that cameras have nothing to do with road safety.
If they were serious they would place them in black spots, not in very safe areas, where due to how good and safe the road is, people are more likely to drift over what is usually a ridiculous limit.

Not banned but you have to ask at the counter for it like smokes etc its not on display. I think I would die of thirst before I drank Listerine though![]()
I suppose this is only astonishing too people that have not been involved in the issues of Drug and Alcohol testing.
The first thing is most people lie and deny. The occasional few underestimate.
The usual story:
Q: "How much did you have to drink?"
A: "2 light beers."
Q: "When did you stop drinking?" test at 0600am
A: "About 10pm."Rubbish usually find out more like 0300am.
Q: "Have you consumed any illicit or prescription medications in the last 14 days"
A: "No" or they will name any over the counter drug they can to try and hide.
People think you are stupid as a tester. Most of us have seen it all at some time, but still see things that amaze and new fairy tales.
I see this morning a press release has highlighted that in Australia 350,000 people tried Ice in the last 12 months, well I would dispute that and say it would be at least double maybe triple those figures. These are only people that admit to this in surveys.
