general areas are open for all to post
technical and pinnacles they can read but cannot post
Seems that this is the equivalent of other forums "use the search function" which occurs daily when some ask the most basic of questions, covered many times before, and can end up being quite a hostile if not downright abusive topic.
I've been involved in running a different large forum so i know of the costs and work involved. And that was with a cast of a dozen or so managing the forum. And with over 3,000 paid subscribers worldwide it was still over $30/head to barely cover costs (though that was setup as an incorporated car club so theres a few other costs). And then i co ran a smaller specialty forum. With voluntary contributions, value left to the user. The management of the forum software alone before managing threads, users and spam bots was at least an hour a days effort.
So for what we get, which is an exceptional amount of Dave's time, for a cost which is essentially left up to us to choose but at what? $11 p.a? and up, makes it pretty good value and if you can't save your forum cost yeary through advice allowing you to do some sort of job yourself rather than oaying someone then you're just not trying.
I've been on here since '99 by memory, paid for most of that time except when time were financially dire (and that was often LR induced), have been working on these damm things since the 80's, from conversions to making our own aftermarker parts, tanks, bars etc and still find stuff weekly that I didn't know or make things easier.
So kudos to Dave. Those that seem not only to want to not only debate but argue the point over what the forum should cost, I invite you to start up a forum, get the users and content to attract the patronage that AULRO has and do it all while working to support your family and do it from your own pocket for much of the time.
For the life of me, I cannot reply to threads in the disco 2 sub forum because of some ban or insufficient privileges.
I've been accessing this site via tapatalk on my mobile device for some time and since there was a email check or similar, I thought perhaps I couldn't reply to threads because my email hadn't been confirmed.
I've then tried to confirm my email address which didn't work so then I changed it to another but still couldn't reply to threads.
I then tried to contact someone like a moderator on the java chat but my java settings wont accept this site's security or something.
It's obvious that I can start threads here.
Could someone possibly help me out? I don't know whether I've been punished for an indiscretion or I've missed something?
Cheers
Mark
You now need to subscribe to gain user rights since the start of the year. Look on the front page for all the info. $11 is for your basic subscriber level which will give you similar to the old none paid level.
Yep. What he said.
Supporter level access is now required. There have been numerous posts about it for quite some months but I do understand how it can be missed.
Cheers people. I'll get onto it
FYI
it is all explained in this thread
