Firstly, let me reassure loanrangie (and others) that my previous post was meant as a joke.
Secondly, I don't mind that we drive on the left, but PLEASE can we get a standard about which side of the steering wheel has the indicators and which side has the wipers.
After all, we got the pedals sorted. Let's get the column controls consistant too.
In any case I agree with Lotz-A-Landies, as long as we are driving on the same side as Japan & India (theoretically - see previous post) then that covers a huge percentage of the world's car manufacturers. And who wants to drive rubbish American cars anyway? :wasntme:
A coal mining company that I worked for had a narrow private mine access road into the Burragorang Valley where the traffic swapped sides to keep loaded trucks climbing against the clifts with the lighter empties descending on the outer edge to help the longevity of the roadway. Having a good view of the edge probably helped with the driver's longevity too.
Land Rover had both scenarios covered almost seventy years ago.
I suspect our regulatory gremlins already have this in hand... Just have a close read of the ADRs relating to 'Lighting', and Headlamps. - They come from the United Nations, not home-grown...
Somewhere amongst my print-outs, I've got the headlamp beam-patterns from the ADRs, and there is a LH AND a RH set...
Sweden used to be left side of the road, but decided to change to right side of the road to align with the rest of Europe. So, at 5.30 am on a day in 1961, after a massive public education program, with thousands of police & military in attendance all over the country, they changed. Just like that. And have been right hand side of the road ever since. Bob
