Many years ago I lived in suburban Melbourne, in a rather hilly area. My next door neighbour had a steep driveway, with a just about level spot in front of his garage door.

One evening he arrived home from work, got out, slammed the driver's door, and watched in dismay as his new Alfa proceeded backwards, down the drive, across the (fortunately fairly quiet) road, mounted the kerb, through the paling fence opposite, to come to rest with the back wheels having just dropped over the edge of over-the-road's swimming pool, having been slowed enough in demolishing the fence. While not a write-off, it was certainly much the worse for wear! Handbrake left off (manual).

It would devastate me to have that happen to my vehicle. I always try to err on the side of caution, but, Murphys' law I guess. Such a simple mistake, Bob

I left the handbrake off in a manual peguot 505(405, can't remember?) years and years ago.

Came out late at night to walk the dog?walking back up the drive thought, somethings odd, but what???'shone my torch across the lawn'strange? What are those red lights in the bushes????walk closer?.reflectors??? walked closer?.crap!

Car had rolled down the lawn?and disappeared over the 3m cliff at the end. Fortunately it got hung up on the trees growing on the cliff. All I could see from the lawn was the rear bumper sticking up.

Haven't left a handbrake off since - haven't left a manual in neutral either.

    Angry

A friend of mine woke up one morning to find his work ute across the road up against the neighbours fence.
His HSV clubby that was parked in front of the ute was gone and never seen again.
