Howdy folks, I am just looking for some advice as when my car was in with a well known place of business, my modified exhaust manifold was removed, and yesterday pulling the head off, discovered that a complete stock one with webbing has been put on my car. without my knowledge, or anything said to me. my manifold had the webbing removed, and was also machined. it cost me money, and it was done to prevent the warpage problem from re occuring. My car was only in at the mechanics 2 months ago to get a welsh plug fixed, some gaskets replaced and it had the ecu chip thing. The place will be getting contacted today. As i am horrified my part was stolen. there is no reason for my part to not be on my vehicle. and i want it back. if it was a simple mix up of parts then that is of concern as well as peoples parts should not be getting mixed up! and if there had been something wrong with my manifold, i would have been informed, and charged! there is no mention, other than the stud bolts were replaced with new when the manifold was undone in order to get to the welsh plug. to find a stock one on there is just rotten. it is also already a warped one!!! it was a lot of work modifying mine, and making sure a problem was no more. to find this. well as you can imagine my blood is boiling.
i expect them to have some excuse, or deny it, or something. the one time i decide to use a mechanic, and a big name at that, and i get burnt and am reminded that they cannot be trusted and best just to do everything myself at home!
what makes it worse is they are aware my car is maintained at home, so how they think this would not get noticed is beyond me.
please do not remove this post admin. i have not named the place. but need advice on legal action to be taken, and also people need to know when a place of business is stealing. and legal action will be taken if they deny this, or make excuses and do not return what is mine.
has anyone else had this happen to them before? what was the outcome?

thanks! looks like someone has experienced the same!
yeah i just dont know what legal eagle to talk to lol, ive never been wronged like this or had something stolen like this. i dont know if should contact police, current affairs, or who LOL
I would suggest that you go to your local court house, speak to someone at the desk and they should be able to give you a phone number of the legal aid office, then go from there
But, it looks like a case of thieft, has somebody at that business got the same make or model or a vehicle with the same motor,if so ask for a look under the bonnet.
i hate to be negative Nancy but here are some things to consider
you vs a business that turns over more than a million a years, whose going to have the better lawyer?
depending the outcome of your phone call, can you prove they took it?
what proof do you have that it was on the car when you took it in?
what proof do you have that it was deliberately removed, ie, it wasn't an accident or a misunderstanding.
sorry i cant think of anyhtinkg else
edit:
thought of something else: two months is a long time between having work done and discovering the problem. that will raise eyebrows.
dont get me wrong, i dont trust these guys, im just not sure something can be done though legal channels.
Why don't you just call up your local police station, and run it past them? They will have some thoughts on whether you'll get anywhere and what the process might be....
I hate things like that. Many moons ago we took a highly modified VW bug to a specialist for some tweaking. When we got it back, our very expensive german shocks had been swapped out for some cheapie Monroes. Went back and confronted them, and they said "we thought they were worn, so we put these on to help you out". Yeah sure. Why no charge for the shocks then? They gave us our original s back and we never went back to them again.
It sucks when people do crap like that.
i have photos of it being on my car, reciepts of proof of it being modified, even a thread in here somewhere of the process. and there is no way in which it was accidently removed and replaced. wrong parts do not just fall on peoples cars.
and yes i am aware they might go oh anything can happen in two months, but who on earth would go and refit a stock part known to cause issues when they went through all the trouble to stop that problem? and who knows how many people there are out there who have had them remove bits and would never know because they do not work on their own cars? id not looked at my manifold after work was done there, as i never in a million years expected mine to not be there. i checked the welsh plug was not leaking but did not look a little further down to suss out my manifold, who would expect this to happen? worst decision ever to take my car to a professional. i am sorry to al the good mechanics out there, its no wonder you all get such a bad rap when people cannot even trust big professional places.
bigger lawyer, more money or what, does not give them the right to steal peoples stuff.
Confront them by all means but consider what it would cost you to modify the currently-fitted one. Often its better to suffer a small financial loss and get on with life than loose a lot of sleep over something that is better forgotten.
