    Ron,
In SA the way in which you intend to use the recording dictates if it is an offence or not...

LISTENING AND SURVEILLANCE DEVICES ACT 1972 - SECT 7
7?Lawful use of listening device by party to private conversation

    (1) Section 4 does not apply to or in relation to the use of a listening device by a person (including a person to whom a warrant is issued under this Act) if that listening device is used?

    (a) to overhear, record, monitor or listen to any private conversation to which that person is a party; and

    (b) in the course of duty of that person, in the public interest or for the protection of the lawful interests of that person.

    (2) An exemption from section 4 that applies to an officer of an investigating agency in relation to the use of a listening device for the purposes of the investigation of a matter by the agency extends to any other such officer who overhears, records, monitors or listens to the private conversation by means of the device for the purposes of the investigation.

    (3) A person must not knowingly communicate or publish information or material derived from the use (whether by that person or another person) of a listening device under this section except?

    (a) to a person who was a party to the conversation to which the information or material relates; or

    (b) with the consent of each party to the conversation to which the information or material relates; or

    (c) in the course of duty or in the public interest, including, in the case of information or material derived from the use of a listening device in the course of an investigation by an investigating agency, for the purposes of a relevant investigation or a relevant proceeding; or

    (d) being a party to the conversation to which the information or material relates, as reasonably required for the protection of the person's lawful interests; or

    (e) if the information or material has been taken or received in public as evidence in a relevant proceeding.

Maximum penalty: $10 000 or imprisonment for 2 years.

So you can record it to protect yourself from allegations etc..
as I said to prevent any false allegations recording can be a good idea.

Forget the Cops, unless you can PROVIDE them with evidence and an open and shut case, so that they don't have to get off their shiny blue bums then forget it.
Cops will ask do you have actual photos/videos of the stolen part being removed by these mugs, then they will send you packing, "sorry it's their word against yours, we have to catch them in the act", Regards Frank.

and yes i am aware they might go oh anything can happen in two months, but who on earth would go and refit a stock part known to cause issues when they went through all the trouble to stop that problem? and who knows how many people there are out there who have had them remove bits and would never know because they do not work on their own cars? id not looked at my manifold after work was done there, as i never in a million years expected mine to not be there. i checked the welsh plug was not leaking but did not look a little further down to suss out my manifold, who would expect this to happen? worst decision ever to take my car to a professional. i am sorry to al the good mechanics out there, its no wonder you all get such a bad rap when people cannot even trust big professional places.

bigger lawyer, more money or what, does not give them the right to steal peoples stuff.

Can you tell us what the reasons where for swapping the manifold, and how did they justify it,

    Interesting to say the least.

Be interested if it was the workshop or an entrepreneurial mechanic.

Really gives you confidence in your favourite or recommended LR workshop when reading of this type of crap.
I know personally a bloke whose vehicle was supposedly fitted with a new transferbox which recently crapped itself and when the repairer (not the first repairer ) investigated it was the original box as fitted by LR in the UK. Just a bearing had been renewed by the dodgy repairer but he'd been charged for a new box.
One of his upgraded axles had also been removed and a crap driving member and dodgy half shaft fitted as well.
I suspect nothing will be done at all to get this rectified as most complaints of this nature are never followed through despite forum whinging.
Until the offenders are reported to the consumer people or taken to court or threatened with legal action as I have done to an "expert" LR repairer and a caravan maker and their retailer as I have done here in WA, they will continue to rip people off.
Good luck to the OP in getting complete satisfaction here.

Any 'general' reasons you can enlighten us with?

Love to know what their logic was....

Cheers for the vote of confidence Frank,
I suppose its lucky your not making generalisations or assumptions or anything.

    EpicDragon,
Glad you have the parts back, its a start!, if you can give us the reason they gave you I'd be interested to hear it.. I'd think its still worth advising at least their head office?

    Well done
