    WA Fires

There are 2 out of control bushfires in WA at the moment. The Northcliffe Fire and the Boddington Fire.
We attended the Boddington fire today as an expected windshift put Quindanning in our shire in the fire line.
Fortunately the windshift wasnt as strong as predicted,we were stood down at 6.30pm.With wind predictions the fire will be in our shire tommorow.I put several KM of firebreaks in adjacent to state forest blocks where the fire is expected to break out into farmland. There was a huge turnout of local farm firefighters.
Defas declared the fire a category 3 red so pulled out all fire fighting crews, its great to see the turnout, there are fire crews from all over the state ready to go tommorow.
Cool change expected, but it will bring strong winds fanning the fire our direction.
    A couple of pics.
From the back of my place at lunchtime today, the fire is aprox 50km away.

A couple of pics from the grader on the trip there.

Waiting for an ember attack, which didnt arive.Fire front is 10km away.

The Boddington fire is over 80km east from us here is Bunbury, but the smoke cloud looked just as impressive from our side too today.

    Stay safe out there.

If the wind shifts around down at Northcliffe as predicted and the flank becomes the front, I fear for Northcliffe and Pemberton. The only way that fire in the Karri forest will stop will be via water from the sky (i.e. rain), unfortunately not too likely at this time of year....

Friend of mine did the Bibbulman track last year during winter. Despite the rain, he was very conscious of the fire-hazard, and some locals in Dwellingup voiced their fears of another wipe-out.
Consensus was that the big lessons of the past are being... forgotten.

We've been following this on the news. Stay safe all those who are close to them.

The metro area is blanketed with smoke at the moment.

I was thinking of you today and wondering if you were affected. Denmarks been totally engulfed in thick smoke all day. All our units on high alert. Gary

    Just in from work.
We were involved in stopping a running wild fire today. An experience Im not in a hurry to have ever again.
The sky went black, there were fireballs above us exploding brighter than lightening, then a firestorm.
Anyhow with the help of a bitumen road and many firebrakes thru oat stubble the fire that had just broke out of state forrest just went out.A older farmer said in all his years of fighting big fires he had never seen anything like it.
If we hadnt stoped it there the Quindanning townsite would be burnt down now.
Hell of a mess to clean up.Back first thing in the morning to clean up.The threat isnt over, there is still plenty of unburnt forrest in the fireground.
Have pics, too late too tired tonite.

Just saw on the abc - Boddington, Collie and Williams residents at risk.

Good luck to all over there, used to live in Boddington and work at BBM, I'm sure the Bauxite and the Gold mine would be assisting, thanks to all the volunteers.

The Saddleback ranges are some damn inaccessible massive hills and valleys (great for pigs to have prospered in), it will be a hard slog fighting a fire in that...
