Workshops and Projects

As a Fitter/Machinist/Toolmaker/Fireman during my working life, woodworking has been a bit of a hobby. Perseverance during lots of mistakes has built the self confidence to tackle different things. Tools have been collected over many, many years when finances would allow.

I'm fortunate to have a goodly amount of space to work in and try not to clutter it up too much. Cleaning up after each and every job is paramount, as the shed is fairly open and allows the dust and dirt from outside to blow in and mingle with the mess I make. Makes for some interesting times when applying finishes to projects.

I'm rewiring the auxiliary power supply in the Defender at the moment and I don't enjoy grovelling around under vehicles on a gravel floor much anymore. :(

Don't wish your life away Andy. Retirement will come sooner than you think. Make the most of your younger years ;)

Awesome work! I dabble in a little wood work as well, but my stuff never seems to come out as nice as your bookshelf!

ATM, I've been instructed that the Land Rover must not be worked on :( and that the spare room of the house converted into a study/dinning room!

I did a restoration on an old Queenslander when I lived up north and know all about rotten windows. They were all sash and casement styles. I removed everyone of them and rebuilt some and reglazed most. Lots of fun :mad:

My next tool purchase and maybe the last, will be a planer thicknesser.

I have heaps of timber (mostly jarrah) like what is in your second photo up the back yard. Might have to have a look at the price of one of those so that I can use some of the old timber on some projects. :D

I've been busy again. After buying the new saw, I couldn't help myself and had to put the GB in the background for a couple of weeks.

:o :no2: Thanks for the vote of confidence Ian. I did a Kombi years ago with my Dad.

A few years ago I built a chest of drawers (tallboy) the pics of which bloody photobucket removed.

Nevertheless, I needed a couple of bedside chests to match and came up with these. As my personal papers are a mess in the old filing cabinet, I thought including a single file drawer for the more important stuff might be a good idea. Time will tell!

Frames are in Douglas Fir, sized down from the large chest, with a little help from some Baltic. Drawer cases are plain old white pine, apart from the file drawer which is plywood, with the side panels made from pine liner boards.
