Soft roaders.... You'd be surprised at how capable they are.

Col has some pictures of me out playing in my Freebee with a load of 110s. OK... I managed to burn out my clutch & flywheel but afterwards we actually worked out that it was a leaking crank shaft oil seal which caused the failure.

My mate (Ali's brother - Julian) regularly beats toyed up 90s with his freelanders in the Off-road championships over here.... [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

So... TD4 Auto looks like the way to go Ace. :wink:

Works way better with the ETC too.

Yep, the auto is great. Couple of reasons...

1 - The Freebee doesn't have a low-range so in the sticky stuff it stops you burning out the clutch.
2 - There have been some "problems" with Freebee clutches... It doesn't help that the clutch that's in there is only just strong enough for the power output.

I've use both manual & auto off-road and the auto is by far the best.

I have to admit, I would prefer the auto when off road, dont like the smell of burning clutch :evil:

Ok, thanks, i will tell stacey, she wants a manual, and so do i, but if the auto is better its better. If we arent taking it off road (cause the disco will do all that, and stacey wont let me take it off road) is the manual still a problem? Matt

Yes - you'll still have to change gears [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

You may have trouble finding a TD4 Manual, there are not many ... because the auto is such a good combo.

S/hand the price difference should not be that much. Also I'm not sure if the TD4 manual came with the cruise (it was standard on the autos) - if you're doing lots of kms the cruise might be a worthwhile option.

Oh on that note - some people say that cruise increases fuel consumption - I use cruise all the time. Guess I'm not really trying to lower my fuel consumption - petrol, aircon, auto, cruise :oops:

I have always been told that cruise lowers fuel consumption, because you arent rapidly accelerating and the engine revs are controlled etc.

We are going to wait for a few months, now we arent getting the petrol, and save a little longer for the diesel. Do all the post 2000 models have the sports auto, with the triptronic option? Matt
