ANYWHERE up the coast north of Mooloolaba is still great.
(actually arounds Vlads way is not bad, Incs a bit north of there and at the northern end of the "drive the car to work in brizzy every day" )
yes you can still afford ocean views up here,
yes there is drop in crime of around 99%,
yes people still say "Gidday"
yes some places are are 2 victoria widths from the nearest town,
yes fraser and morten are "just over there"

It really is quite excellent up here. I don't think I could like anywhere else... I can't speak for jobs though. I'm in IT, and we often look at Sydney/Melbourne with envy. I think it depends what industry you're in.
As to the climate, it really is excellent. Summer can be hot.. once again it depends what game you're in. If you're an office worker like me, you can skip from air conditioning to air conditioning. Trades that work outside tend to start early in summer. The other three seasons are beyond belief - just magic.
If you are from Sydney, houses are still quite affordable. It helps to bring some money with you as wages are usually less up here.

I made the move to Brisvegas around 6 odd years ago. I left a middle management job with a large US corperate to go back to my trade working for myself, unfortunately the builder I first hooked up with (after 6 months organising before we arrived) did the dirty on me and we were left cash less and workless :evil: , but after a short readjustment of lifestyle due to lack of money, we soon settled into the QLDer lifestyle.
It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, the only regrets that I have about moving up here are the loss of regular contact with some family members(although the net has improved this) and the circle of Land Rover freinds from Sydney LROC, but after attending last months Brissy LROC meeting and with the guys on here its starting to feel the same. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]
I still cring when I go back to Sydney for a visit every 12 months or so, the last time in March and believe me Sydney is becoming a shocker, you wont realise how bad it is till you move away. 8O
If you want come up for a weekend, drop over we'll have a few XXXX golds, nip up to Rainbow for the day, go for a walk along the river at Southbank one night, catch the ferry over to Moreton and catch a couple of fish then shoot over to LCMP and play on the hard tracks :wink:
Oh did I mention were 1000km's closer to the Cape aswell [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]
Rego for the fender is around the $400 mark, inc greenslip 8O

Thanks for all the comments and info. It certainly sounds like a worthwile move. I've spent a week on the Gold Coast, seen Fraser, Morton and Straddie plus some business trips to Brisbane and have always been impressed with the infrastructure and general laid back approach of the Queenslanders. I'll take the advice and come up there for a weekend or two to scope it out.
Anybody know anything about the Springfield area, South-West of Brisbane. Especially the housing development on the Brookwater golf course??
I currently hold a position as IT manager (yeah I know, that doesn't say much) .. what is the IT industry like up there? Available positions?
I can always become a pro-surfer and live of my tour winnings :wink:
Cant and wont talk about the south side, I'm a north sider :roll: spent 5 yrs at Redcliffe till the prices got a bit dear (from 105K 2/3 bed cottage 2 blocks from the water to 275K for the same place in 5 yrs) so we moved a bit further to the north west, still only 30km from the CBD, 4 bdr 2car garage pool etc 325K so still good value and unlike Sydney its a nice quiet suburb without any graffiti on the streets etc. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]Quote:

I was with IBM, and looked at IT up here and there wasnt much when I was looking, but if your in the industry it wouldnt be too hard to pick up something when your here :wink:
As for the pro surfing, we got plenty of beaches to choose from, most of which have a free wave or two, you never know you might get discovered and change your career 8O

The springfield area is very nice, and there are some lovely homes and stuff out there. The developers have worked to establish lots of community services.
On the downside, while it might not seem far by Sydney standards, it is considered a long way out by Brisbane standards. Also, the commute can be a little difficult from out there. They are intending to put a new road in to try and alleviate the congestion, but it should tell you that it will get worse before it get's better.
If you will be working in town, try and get somewhere near the train. The train system up here is good... busses only average. We live 7k more or less direct north of the city, and if I drive in it takes about 30 minutes **PEAK**. About 10 mins off peak. Generally it's 45 door to door. Most of the time the bus is as quick as driving. Trains are the quickest way.
In all seriousness, if you don't have family ties Brisbane is the place [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img] You are welcome to pop in for a cuppa when you are up.
Or a Beer. Come down to Redcliffe and say G'day. The Brissie boys have proven they can all make it here if properly motivated.
