What is Brisbane like?

G'day all,

I'm contemplating a move from Sydney to Brisbane .. would like to hear any thoughts on wage differences, property prices, cost of living, general pros and cons. Sydney is a wonderful place but I reckon it's time for a change .. from what I've seen of Brissie and surrounds .. should be ok. Would be nice to have Morton and Fraser island on your doorstep

TIA ...

Henry.

Do it! get the hell out of here!!! im trying to get back too!

Brissy is deffinatly nicer than sydney, i will never wine about
the traffic there ever again, not after living here!
you can go from one side of town to the other in 40min
thats like 50k's. the gateway bridge/M1 is crap in peak hour,
but its not like sydney peak hour.

good suburbs are, raby bay(and surrounds) yuppieish!
i was at coopers plains(down the hill from ANZ stadium)
northern burbs are also fine.
just stay away from logan area and westish from goodna!

houses are cheep compared to sydney. you can get a nice house
for $300k, rent is cheap i was paying 200/wk for low set 3bdrm
plus 2 car shed.

there are still a lot of dic#heads but more spread out!
i transfered with the same company and my pay went up by $11/wk
so the wage thing is equal. fuel is under 105 for diesal.
anything else ya need to know give me a holler.

cheers phil.

Leave thinking to the Philosophers... Just Do It :!:

If you have a look on any of the real estate services on the net you can see what you get for your money and where. Housing is (by and large) much cheaper than Sydney these days. And closer to town for the same money, that's for sure.

Pros:
- Not Sydney.
- Fantastic weather, most of the time.

Cons:
- Only the ones that built the place several hundred years ago.

And you'll be glad to know we haven't reached our full complement of Grey Landies yet so there's still room for you under the quota.

Locals probably call it a tourist trap but I LOVED the Breakfast Creek Hotel. XXXX off the wood made me come within seconds of missing my flight home. Nice selections of steaks as well.

One downside about living in Brisbane is I'd get neck and arm strain from checking out and waving to all the Defenders. This is especially so as you head north up the sunshine coast.

Pity you did not consider this about 6 months ago, Sydney house prices are coming down off their peak Ive heard, but life is like that.

Hi greylandy, we made the move north about 5 years ago and have never regretted it.

We spent every second weekend in Queensland over a 6 month period, trying to find a suitable house, but once we found what we wanted, we couldn’t move quick enough.

Come up and send a weekend or two up here and have a good look around. Brisbane is a dam site more diverse than Sydney so you should have a good look around to suss out an area that appeals to you and your needs.

By the way, the whole of South East Queensland is a great place to live, you don’t have to live in Brisbane to enjoy the great Queensland life style. Also have a look around the Sunshine Coast.

You could try the Gold Coast but it’s now very over rated compered to the rest of South East Queensland.

Cheers and move quickly to get a much better life style sooner.

Hi Grey Landie

I am from Sydney and had spent the last few years in Melbourne.

I came up to Brisbane from Melbourne about a year ago for a 6 - 10 month IT project.

We fell in love with the weather and the lifestyle. I resigned from the company I was working for and took a full time role up here.

House prices are reasonable (although climbing steadily) and you can still buy petrol for less than a dollar per litre (92.9 last weekend )

As Vlad said,......just do it.

Cheers

Stinking hot! Like hot? I'm down the road by two hours and Bris has as much as Syd, lived in Nth Syd on and off for forty years.
But the drive in from the south reminds me of LA.

At least this region has freeways, which work well, agreed fellow QLDers?

And I didn't have to go to Melb or Syd to see 'The Producers' a few weeks ago.

Cheers, GQ

Whatever you do... stay away! 8O It's quite horrible up here. The weather is either so hot and humid you could cut it with a knife, or it's freezing and raining. It's a little known fact that it can and has snowed in queensland!

Traffic is getting steadily worse too, sometimes you're lucky to even get to work. If I can't get there by 11AM, I often turn around and go home, and we're only 7 k from the city.

What's more, wages are so poor, you're lucky if you can afford somethin warm in't stomach wunce a week... when I were a lad we were so poor....

House prices are on the rise too, and soon you'll be paying half a mill to pitch your tourer tent within 10 k of the city.

And the worst thing... the whole place is overrun with southerners!!!! Stay away.. we'll all be better off!:x :x
