I've seen similar gadgets quite a few years ago, possibly in the USA. Maybe even in this country.

Tree spade . some are mounted onto semi trailers for taller trees. Very easy for transplanting. First over a few months or so the machine takes progessivily deeper cuts until all roots are severed then a plug is removed from the new location. Then it is dropped in watered and secured. Instant mature tree.

Have used them many times to move trees up to 10m tall. Most of the trees in Fairfield Town Centre we had to move using one. Also the large palm trees in the front of the Old Mater Hospital site in Crows nest.
Works well on trees such as palms with fibrous roots. For other flowering trees they work best on deciduous trees which are dormant. That way the severed roots have a chance to re-sprout in the spring with little effect on the tree.
Vermeer make them in all sizes from small tractor mounted ones they use in tree farms for balled and bur-lapped semi mature specimens to huge semi mounted ones.
