A couple of weeks ago when the cyclone went past our place at Maleny received 430mm in 24 hours!

Here in my part of Tasmania we are having yet again another green drought, only enough rain to keep a bit of colour but with no growth.

Here's hoping that the tail end of ex tropical cyclone Olwyn will shake some rain loose over us, on it's way over to make New Zealand more beautiful.

We had record rains in Southern Tasmania in April 1960 and it was said that that it was the result of a cyclone that had swung around Cape Leeuwin, WA, and came across the Great Australian Bight as a massive low pressure system.

Over the last Fortnight we have had lots of dry wind and any green tinge in the paddocks has now turned very brown.

hay but is saves on petrol for the lawn mower. not like NZ i had to mow the lawns every weekend. here its like 4-5 times a year

I reckon we will crack 4000 mm in the first quarter, bridges are falling down, beer stocks being watched closely.:o

Should be some fun wet crossings for the rest of the year.;)

Now the sand bags are in place I say bring it on! Another 250 today will flush the rivers and really turn the barras on. One of my favourite rivers up north is 12m over the gauge, Normanby at Battle camp is running 11m so Lakefield (Rinyirri) will get a good flushing.

But by dead reckoning Im thinking Ninian is going to dance with Nathan tonight and Hopevale/Cooktown will get not much more than a gusty July with a few rain squalls

Well, you guys, roverescue and others, in FNQ stay safe, the bureau is saying Cat 4 on crossing the coast north of Cooktown tonight/early Friday.

Everyone here has their fingers crossed for you.
