I can see calling Broken Hill a city, and in fact it has long been called one. But calling Ilfracombe a city - isn't that a bit of a stretch!

My Dad managed a sheep station , near Ilfracombe, late 50's, early 60's. Used to get dry then, but not this bad, from memory. Bob

For a young boy living on a sheep station, with a pony for a best mate, it looked like a city to me. Why, the Wellshot is as grand as the Hilton ! Bob

I see that one proposal is to pump water from the murray up to the lakes to be used for broken hill...
amazing...
I suppose it'll save money at this end not having to worry about buying water that wont be coming....
a few years ago i was paying for a 100% allocation but only allowed 16%..
maybe another source other than the murray would be good?
Adelaide is just as bad, built a multimillion dollar desal plant then the govt we have here doesnt have it running!! Even though it will cost millions so that they can recommission it because it was stopped... a fact they were well aware of but still stopped.
Theyve run this state into the ground and without water (and a change of politicians) it wont grow..

Get the Condamine flowing, it would go all the way to Bass Strait. How to do that ? We need a 21st century solution. Bob

The Bradford scheme, or a variation of it, would save the North. Problem is , too many people can find a reason not to try, too many navel gazers, & nay sayers, holding Australia back. Bob

When we see how the droughts year in year out , are affecting so many community's all over our country . Yet It seems that there is a lot of talk , but nothing ever seems to get done to address this problem . Australia is one of the wealthiest country's in the world . When I look at what's going on in Dubai or the Emirates , They seem to have a progressive attitude towards the county's infrastructure , that plans for the future . We just seem to be letting our outback city's and town die . I was always under the impression that there is massive reserves of water in the great artesian basin . If It was oil they'd soon drill down to It , and pull It up . I haven't even mentioned the top end rain that runs into the see !!.. Jim
As soon as the mining industry and those living south of the Tropic of Capricorn realise we don't have a lot of water, then that may go a long way to having it last longer, stop using it like we have plenty all of the time, problem solved
