What a nice place. Look at that sky.

Shepp. is only a little over an hour from you. Any IT jobs there?
Yep .... Bendigo weather is WAY better than ballarat area. The divide makes all the difference. Ballarat is on top of a mountain inside a bowl. In the middle of winter, if you drive 20minutes in any direction, the sky will clear ... and it'll be 3->4 degrees warmer.

Death by 1000 cuts sounds like. I've often thought of retraining and doing something else.

I've always been highly regarded with my skill set however I often wonder if the inevitable is just going to take place. I'm not quite sure...

Sounds like what I was doing yesterday, fly in and out of Launceston in same day. leave home at 5am for flight, full day work, get home at 10pm thanks to delays at the airport. The things you do when work is in short supply

I thought I would post a message on here asking fellow LR enthusiasts who live in Melbourne what they think of it.

I am a tertiary qualified IT professional with 15 years experience and have been having trouble finding work in the Yarra / North East Region.

I've previously tried to steer clear of bigger cities, after growing up on a farm and having plenty of space around me.

If I did move to Melbourne I would like to catch the train or tram to work avoiding driving the car.

There seems to be a lot more opportunities available in the capital cities for a person with my qualifications.

I have even thought about retraining to allow me to stay in a regional / small country town.

I guess its all up in the air at the moment.

I wonder if there are other people on here that have been in a similar experience and could offer any insights into your experiences.
Melbourne is a great place to live.
However, as far as you "living here", first I reckon you need to make sure that you can get a job here. So I'd do nothing until I actually had a job.
When you've achieved that, there's not a doubt in the World that you'd find somwhere suitable to live, whether it be in the burbs or further out.

    Almost Anything but Melbourne

    Hi Guys

I totally understand where you are coming from and although this might not be helpful in getting you a job I live on the Bellarine Peninsula not far from Geelong in Victoria. A few years ago I found myself in a similar position and thought commuting to Melbourne and Glen Iris on the other side was doable. I clearly remember after spending nearly 3 hours getting there one morning stepping off the train when an old bloke with a little dog was getting on. The bloke not the dog said as we passed, "Cheer up you miserable B life cant be that bad". I will be eternally grateful to that bloke for telling me what I could not see in myself. I resigned at the end of that week and another job came from nowhere in Geelong. Explore any and all options before even looking at the city from your self description the city will kill you one way or another, I know it was doing that to me.

    CaptainDan
