    I've got absolutely no idea where you are , however, I'll digress , it does look similar to an area we drove through two or so years ago over in SA.
    We were on route up to Elliston from down at Port Lincoln, and kind-of about half to 2/3's of the way we come across what looks like a moon scape . It had been burnt badly just prior to us being there I think, and looked really bad, God forsaken country, but I imagine it would look very similar to where you are in your pic whilst its spring perhaps.

    God I love seeing all the places you guys have travelled. Australia is just so awesome.

    Marcus, your recollections of the areas you've driven through are quite good and has placed you in the correct state and fairly close to the area I investigated in 2002 and 2003. Photos taken in 2003.
    The area however has a unique name and this is what I am after this time so good luck, keep probing.
