Don't hold back 87County, it's always good to see things from a different perspective. Although, it was your clue that gave it away. :D
Let's try this one now -

24 hours since posting and nil response so it must be time for an extra clue .................... there are only three places where it is currently possible to cross this river and the other two are bridges.
I don't know how iconic the Hawkesbury is but that's what it looks like to me.
Not The Hawkesbury, you need to head south and cross the border. Although the headwaters of the river are in NSW.
Once you get the correct river it shouldn't be difficult (using previous clues) to get the location. :D
I'm tempted to say its the Murray on that note, but I don't recall cliffs like that, that is, not anywhere I've seen anyway.
Don't know much about the Lachlan, but I'm thinking it may be that, although where exactly, I have no idea,,,
More "googling" required me thinks.
Ok, scrap that last post.
It'd have to be the Murrumbidgee, and I'm thinking with the water clear/smallish like that, it'll have to be up above the Yass area, but that's about as much as I can work out.
I'm thinking somewhere along the Snowy. Wombargo perhaps?
