Downstream (top pic) and upstream views, when the photos were taken river was swollen following late spring rains.
Photos were taken adjacent to a road bridge over the river.
Name of River please, many ++bonus points for location :)

My first thought is that the mountains in the background look a bit like Barrington Tops, so I'm guessing somewhere in the upper Hunter region, but not the Hunter River.
Correct state but other side of the Dividing Range, Jon

No, not the Macquarie, but further north
Namoi River somewhere near Gunnedah?
Not the Namoi, Roger, the photo location is about a 1 hr drive from Gunnedah (depending on how fast you travel).
This stream, which is named as a River, was once a permanent waterway well known for the cod and other fish that bred there. Unfortunately, due to overallocation, theft and modern day farming practices, it is now sadly reduced to a chain of large disconnected waterholes in dry times  .
Castlereagh river?
Gwyder River?
