I've been thinking that far East, In fact I thought of North of Yunta somewhere, but those hills put me in mind of east of Broken Hill.

Well I spent some quality time with online maps recreating my trip from 10 years ago, have now identified the road if not the exact spot. Hawker is the closest guess so far, but there is another town just a little closer. The road starts from this town and goes out to a prominent old station 50km to the north east of the town. Quorn is a fair bit further south.

Hawker was just a stab in the dark to establish how far we needed to go in the ESE direction. :(
