There is another clue to the common name of these trees back in post 7864.

Hmmm, Alpine Fir, pretty much restricts it to the cooler climes such as the high country.

Not Alpine Fir but close to the high country.
The 'sweet' is the clue to the species name.
Also, the forest was planted in 1928.
