roughly 18kms south of Home Hill. (which is about 70ish kms south of townsville) it's right on the highway, only about 2kms up the side of the hill to the top! nice view up there on a clear day.

Not sure if this will work....

SC S, 3 young guns. Very sad really, but because I cheated a bit, I wont give it away just yet.
How'd you come across that DB, something you just happened to drive past (??)

Yea I'm pretty sure your onto it. 3 Young fellas and obviously involves a truck with a bullbar...

How did I come across it? Same way I find most things..... I was driving somewhere and needed a break, saw the sign "Historic Monument" so I stopped... it was pure accident.

I'll give another clue. It's on a stretch of roughly 140kms of dirt road - no towns on the road in this section, I'm pretty sure most people go round the bitumen way which is 70kms further???.

Which is why we should really be called explorers The road less travelled is always better IMO.

haha, yea. I hate driving on roads with other people! hahaha... I normally try to find more "interesting" ways of getting to my destination even if it does take a bit longer.

Double bonus points if you can give details of the happening.

    No takers yet?

    So the clues so far:

A truck and 3 young fellas had an incident.
On a stretch of 140kms of dirt road between 2 towns.

    Next clue.....

Moura is 88kms away (that's acutally 2 clues)

As a side note... I went looking for more information and found this website http://monumentaustralia.org.au/ it's pretty cool! Yes this site is listed there but there also 28728 others

It's the bullbar from a truck that exploded, carrying ammonium nitrate, killing a farmer and the driver.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

too many clues, this would be the one.

Memorial erected to the victims of the truck explosion which occured near Stonecroft Station in 1972. The Taroom Historical Society and members of the victims families erected the memorial at the site of the accident.

In 1972 Ronald John Holzberger, Evan Parker Becker and Douglas Thomas Becker were killed when a semi-trailer carrying ammonium nitrate exploded on Fitzroy Development Rd. The explosion destroyed the prime mover and trailer, leaving a crater in the road two metres deep, five metres wide, 20 metres long and left two families reeling.

Parts of the truck and trailer were scattered up to two kilometres away. The explosion was heard and shook houses 88km away in Moura and 55km away in Theodore.
