Daughter bought me a great book
Down from Gayndah for the holidays, daughter brought a book, Life in the saddle, about Alwyn Torenbeek, the kokotunga kid. What I found was it bought back some long forgotten memories. I remember my Dad, gone now, talking about a buck jumper called Domino. Mr Torenbeek was the first to ride Domino out, at a rodeo. And I remember a great flood out Hughenden way, when I was about 8. This is in the book. Dad rode his best horse, with 2 pack horses, crossed a flooded river, & 2 flooded creeks, to get food & powdered milk , all we had was a tray of scones. And the bloody cat got up & ate most of them. I remember the water was lapping our verandah, & mum sweeping snakes off it back into the water. 1956. I'm going back to find that homestead, one day. I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
