When exactly do the Alpine roads get closed for winter?
I know on the Queen's Birthday W/E you can't pass through to the ski resort gates without paying and the other roads that you can normally access these areas get locked.
But when does the gate locking take place?
Is it during the week or the previous weekend before Queens Birthday?
My recent trip up Mt Wellington Tk had a sign showing this gate will be locked from Queens B'Day W/E (10th June 05).
The reason why I ask is that I want to tour up around Mt Stirling/Craigs Hut/Bluff Hut/Macalister Springs/Mt Howit area on the weekend of 4/5th June. So I'd hate to come across a locked gate.
Thanks Chris.

Here's the Victorian close dates. You may just scrape in for Howit et al (16 June closed):

Thanks guys.
It looks like most track/roads will get closed on 16th June.
I'll keep a copy of the parkweb URL. That's a good one.
Thanks again.

Do you want company?
i'd love a colder month drive up there...
Mark from the UK is here as of today so i'm sure he would love to take the Camel Defender up.

Steve,
I'm not doing any difficult tracks.
The plan is:
Melb - Mansfield on Saturday 4th June. I'd love to get out of Rowville by 7.00am but that depends on my 4 year old.
Mansfield - Craigs Hut (via the Circuit Rd) - Mt Stirling - Bindaree falls - Mansfield. I will come back to Mansfield via the Circuit Road. We'll stay in Mansfield since my Misses isn't into camping yet
(I've got to work on her to allow us to travel anywhere there isn't a motel)
Sunday 5th June.
Mansfield - Sheepyard Flat (via the Howqua Rd) - Bluff hut - Lovicks hut - Conglomerate falls - Licola - Melbourne.
As you can see it's strictly touring and a bit of 4WD'ing.
With a 4 year old he always delays us in some way so I hate to be holding up others.
I'd still love to catch up with you guys but the trip might be a bit boring for you and the Camel Defender.
Chris
