Hi All
All , go to the link and vote please,
It seems 4 wd drives injure people not the drivers that fail to follow
road rules http://smh.com.au/polls/national/form.html

Actually a biased poll which will result in the media getting what they want anyway....whichever way you vote, you are saying you support the idea.
I voted against anyway.

1. It's a biased poll in the way it's phrased - as Antaine said.
2. These sorts of polls tend to attract responses primarily from those 'in favour' of the notion acccording to the way the question is phrased.
Consider if you will, the difference between these 3 questions:
A. Should Shapelle Corby spend her life in an Indonesian jail ?
B. Should an Australian girl be jailed for life in an Indonesian jail ?
C. Should a drug smuggler be sent to jail for life in a foreign country ?
You get my point ?
I voted as Antaine did because it certainly IS impractical. There's no way of defining 4wd's adequately that will have the effect intended.
The criteria could be what ?
Two driven diffs :?: That would rule out WRX's, Audi Quattros, and a host of other cars they are surely not intending. What about the difference between the AWD Ford Terriorty and the RWD only version. Is the former more dangerous ?
GVM :?: My Defender Ute is lighter than a Holden Statesman.
Rear and rear quarter visibility :?: My Rangie has fantastic visibility in all directions from the drivers seat. As noted in a recent Insurance company test the current model Commodore is woeful in this respect.
and where does that leave Dads with light trucks (or even heavy trucks) that they use for work and pick their kids up on the way home.
Again, like it or not, the answer is EDUCATION. Of drivers and of children. Yes, it's not an instant fix but at least its a largely effective one.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

As a teacher, i can safely say that this isnt driven by schools, any teacher knows that the problem around schools is young dickheads who speed. I have never heard a teacher mention 4wd's being a problem. Cars hit kids outside schools, or come very close to hitting kids outside schools on a regular basis. The worst time is when buses and parents are picking kids up and kids step out from behind buses. I dont see the government rushing to ban cars around schools. Should trucks be banned from travelling past schools during school hours? The danger to school children isnt the issue here, the pollies who want 4wds out of the city have seen this incident as another box of ammo and they are using it. Had this have been a car, it would have been in the news, the driver of the car sent to court if they were at fault and everyone but the childs parents and the driver of the car would move on after a day or two. Survival of the fittest lets just leave thngs the way the are I mean any Kid dumb enough not to notice a 4wd backing overthem and get out of harms way is obviously a few sandwich's short of a picnic, as far as I can tell the world is slowly becoming over populated anyway so if losing a few to the tread pattern of a monster truck is the answer then, pardon me what was the question damn you insomnia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()

Kids do not have any peripheral vision to speak of until they hit puberty. Effectively, due to the way the eye develops, children are walking around with blinkers on just like cart horses wear to stop them being distracted or spooked.Originally posted by jason

This means that for a kid to notice something backing over them, they need to actually be looking at it or within a 20-40 mil wedge either side of straight on.
Of course as adults we don't stop to think that their body systems may be still developing...we expect them to come from the womb fully functional and place huge expectations upon them instead of facing up to our own responisibilities as adults to safeguard the young...especially adults in charge of a high velocity missile that is the average motor vehicle.
Isn't that right Jason?!?!
