More like seventy years experience.


Its quite simple, all you need to do is arrange the tools, pencil, pen, charcoal, paint, pixel into the right order until you are satisfied.


The methods are universal and used daily by art departments world wide,
you have been looking at this sort of work for years in books, advertisements and on telly.


I use a grid system, I enlarge a photo and then transfer what I see onto
a sketch pad into the grid using the appropriate medium.


Artists use this grid system all the time on canvas, working with live sittings or photo,s to get the picture correct and this artwork appears
lifelike.
Working in the digital area enhances the result because it is black and white with no obvious brush strokes.


These digital images can be coloured, it is called linewash watercolouring.


When I am satisfied I then scan it into the PC, doing this I can rearrange
the pixels, light, dark, size, placement etc until I have the required reproduction. Its just a question of putting stuff in the right place and in the right order.


I don't know if this is the way that the big art departments do it but I have been experimenting with it for about three years now and feel that I am slowly getting there.

Old method and new.

The " sketch " you have signed of my 101 is an edited photo, of that I am certain which is fine , I've done many similar ones myself with apps like paper camera , but please don't mislead people who think you are doing a commissioned drawing for them.

Hmm. Now I understand. That explains the accurate shadowing.

I didn't want to chime in but I have a few years of graphic design under my belt and it looks like a "sketch" filter to me.
However I could be wrong.
