I think Australia Post is great.

I have had 4 parcels sent in the last few weeks and their tracking is brilliant, right up to predicted delivery time.

The actual post offices are staffed by very helpful people who always explain and offer alternatives or cheaper ways of delivering items.

We were getting junk mail in our PO box and I casually questioned it one day. The woman behind the counter said "we are paid to place advertising material in every box , but if you don't wish to receive any , we will put a sticker on your PO box and you won't receive any more"

Do you whingers know of a better alternative to Australia Post?

I think their service is above the bar.

That's true, normally they're very good and the staff do try very hard, so it grates when there is a problem. In our case, I think the problem was actually the contractor, not Auspost itself, as our parcel from Melbourne went around between two depots for some unknown reason.
Anyway, late mail is just a first world problem really, compared with what goes on in some places. I remember when we lived in Thailand the joke was never to post anything with food in it or the parcel would disappear and the food be eaten by the post office staff!

I'd be hesitant to even use one with a plastic moulded bracket...

I wont be using the tabs alone , will make an alloy bracket to wrap around it and clamp it on.

Is Aus Post trying to pressure us into paying extra for faster delivery? A part was posted in Melbourne 4 days (98hrs) ago, but hasn't moved since. 10 years ago I ordered a part by phone and it arrived at my place in SE Qld, by normal mail, in less than 24 hrs.
    What's going on?

    Old news.
Why can't Australia Post even deliver a package?

Maybe there ill be a better alternative in the future?

Yup. Their old standard is now labelled "express post" and costs a little more. Prepaid express post bags are the quickest way of shifting moderate sized stuff through the postal system these days. Recommended by Roverlord Off Road Spares.

You want to try to send something to Tasmania , it takes AP 2 to 3 weeks to row across Bass Strait. you also have to allow for the trip from Qld to Vic.
