Definately worth being in a club for some people. I'm in LROC Sydney and for no other reason than the friends you make from being on trips.
You still can go away with these mates to have fun without the club, but for our clubs $80 bucks a year, we get a nice magazine, public liability, weekends away 2 or 3 a month, kids Xmas party, better discounts than joe blow off the street in many outlets (camp or 4WD) and this alone on your first purchase can get your $80 back, most offer 10% or 15%.
I run a trip a month for the club, for no other reason than going away with these friends and meeting new ones, there is no obligation to the club to run these, but I choose to.
If you get involved with the club politics then thats the way your inclined, if you don't better still, this "politics" does not ruin the club, you avoid getting involved and your sweet, like 90% of the club.
I've seen guys spit the dummy with the club, slamming clubs & the club scene as whole, then turn around and start their own, talk about.......!
Our Tuff Trip section of the club offers extreme day trips for the hard core guys and worth the effort to go on these to the "special places".
Like all things "you get out what you put in" get involved, hang loose, make life long friends and enjoy.

In my opinion, and for my situation, YES - emphatically.
But then, every person is different and every club is different.
The LROC Brisbane is a small club which suits me fine - no politics to speak of (like many small clubs its more of a problem getting people to stand up and have a go rather than dealing with the "I wanna run the world" types.
Go to a meeting, tag along on a few trips and make up your mind then.

I totally agree with bryce, the clubs are definitly worthwhile. apart from the previously mentioned benefits there is the ongoing improvement with the relationship between the clubs and the NPWS which inevitively leads to more tracks available that club members can go on, albeit on club trips.
sure you do find people in the club that rub you the wrong way and tend to give you the sh!ts, but you will also meet some really top people that you do enjoy spending time with.
i'm on the non-important side of the committee with the lroc and while the red tape and heated arguments can be really frustrating, the reward for all the frustration is when you actually achieve something worthwhile, even more-so when it's appreciated (thanks for the kind words on the expo bryce).

not bothered with driver training as i know i can drive :wink:
but to be honest it aint my cuppa tea
join in with the guy's in your state from here its the best way
you dont need to join a club to get the benefits out of your 4wd
just need time to get out there and learn from each other
and not have to worry about legal legistation of what you can and cant do [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img] [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

Hi All,
I was a member of the Zook NSW club for a while, good value. I'm considering the LROC Sydney now, want to start doing some more trips & make new friends. My son is 10 now and he'll enjoy the other kids' company on trips too. I'll make my decision at the Expo.

the LROC has quite a few ex suzuki club members, some that are still members of both. i've had 2 zooks of my own in the distant past.

While I am not personally a member of LROCV, both my Mum and Dad are. They have been so for about 6years now and enjoy it alot.
I've found it great because of the stuff I've learnt and people I've met. We have all sold / bought LR related items as well.
I attend the meetings occasionally to catch up with people and have a chat, ask questions and probe for ideas, which I find to be fantastic.
We've done a few trips - most of them aren't suited to me so i choose to drive mainly with my friends but Dad loves it (he likes touring m uch more than me).
I've also been introduced to people that are not in the club, but equally fanatic about LR's who have been even more beneficial, people I can assist while trying to learn.
I believe that its worth it - It has saved me more $$$ by borrowing the magazines instead of buying them, which would pay for membership by itself.

There are heaps of clubs which are not all vehicle/brand specific. Take the time to go and visit your local club and see fo your self.

I was thinking of joining the LROCV, but from where I will be living it could be a hassle.
Does anyone know if there are clubs around the Albury/Wodonga region?

We went along to the meeting (heaps more people than we expected!) and the first thing the Girlie said upon leaving was "what a good fun bunch of people". I've emailed off my membership application this morning.
It certainly seems like a large active club, and for all the positives people have mentioned, I can see membership helping us. Can't wait to get my hands on the library!
There were so many people there we didn't get a chance to look for any other carnations, but I am sure I'll meet some faces soon.
