Lucas Peril of doom in Disco 1, 95 model

How many of us poor buggers have had problems with the wiring in the LR's we own...

The 94 Disco i just bought has some doozies...

When you pushed the rear demist, it locked the central locking.
1st thought was a short in the tailgate and it was shorting to the rear central lock. Nope the factory fitted alarm. Pulled it out and fixed that prob.

    Rear wiper......
Switch is ok, constant power to the rear like it should have. but i'm yet to check the relay and output of the Multifunction control module.
If the relay is ok and the multifunction puter is crook i'll bypass it and make the rear wiper constant wipe while the switch is on.

Factory Car kit for phone..... Gone. Ripped it out... Now i have room under the dash...

As the car had no books i could not get the radio code.... Dealer gave my 5 Pin Codes to try.... 1 worked..... last one i tried.. (think about it)

    Mmmm
    What else....
Has a minor whine from standstill to top speed, it gets louder, i'm going to service the tranny and transfer so i'll see how i go.

Steering wheel ..... Ahhhhhhhh it has a rubber to rubber noise... when you turn the wheel it makes a Wookie Noise.... i did not know Disco's were in Star wars... i'll have to pull the cowl to see what it is...

Dealers have worked out that laquering the engine is a good thing.... Turds... now i have to clean it off. and they sprayed all this oil stuff on the black bits, bumpers ect. so i've been busy wiping it off. Grrrrrrrr

Ohh and the rear Squirty broke, so i need to get another....

    Thats it for now.....

Now you know what I have had to put up with for the past 11 years of Dsco 1 ownership - have worked through most of them though.

3 things - the lacquer on the engine was put on when the carwas built - it is actually a waxoil compound - my handbook actually states that when the engine is steam cleaned the the waxoil compound should be reapplied. The problem is getting it off - when my car was new I went onto the beach and the sand stuck to the goo - the sand is sill there!!

The steering wheel only makes the noise in winter - it goes away in summer and comes back the following year - guess I got used to it but my passengers always seem to comment that my car seems to be haunted.

Oh- when the central locking burns out - all the motors will go at once - the $39 kits from disk smiths with a extra motor bought from Jaycar (for the back door) works a treat - it is better than paying about $300 a motor from Landrover.

Also the little motor gismo that drives the flap to change from fresh air to recirc - can be rebuilt even though it is a sealed unit, and if your ignition module is still in the side of he distributor move it like the later models have because it will cook

    Just trying to help

    Welcome to the Club

I got lucky cause my disco was one of the first after the move to bosch, no problems yet, other than the park brake light flicking on and off. You will get it sorted steve, you would get bored owning another brand. Matt

I meant say a land cruiser or a patrol, half the fun is tinkering and playing with them. Matt
