One of our members doing the big trip , in west Aus., having starting problems, was told by a mechanic in a reputable shop, his fuel pump needed replacing. Two fuel pumps later, still with a problem, he approached the local independent LR dealer, Redcliffe, to be told it was a simple membrane on top of the fuel filter. Fixed, at a fraction of the cost. Those days are now the things of Fantasy land Bob...

Out back mechanics can no longer service Toyotas younger than an 80 series..

Sure they can do a wheel bearing etc, but any mechanic worth their salt can sort a simple item like that on ANY marque....

Plenty of modern LCs sitting in yards waiting to be flat towed to a repair point all the time... We certainly move a few.... So do the other mines...

Almost none no workshop (regional especially) have parts in stock any more, and a lot of them dont have diagnostics either.... Pays to carry your own diagnostic tool with a modern vehicle - regardless of brand...

After more than 20 years driving 110s in the Army I think I will stick with my Discovery thank you very much. Anyone can self harm. I am fairly comfortable with the fact that my D3 can go anywhere a 110/County/Defender can go and I am far more comfortable in the process. Did I mention that I sold my Defender for $10000 more than my super comfortable and capable Discovery cost.
    Defender drivers fighting it out.....
Most limping (sloshing in gumboots if raining) around in circles due to the nerve damage caused by the handbrake lever jammed into their thigh and the rest trying to untangle themselves from each other's bushy beards.
Lots of yelling "what?" as industrial deafness has taken its toll on many.
Those left in the fray will likely be in for a good "hat slapping". Those Terry toweling hats are no match for the canvas "giggle hat" and you don't want to get hit with an Akubra.

Now if you'll excuse me I have a Defender to finish and a beard to grow..........what?!

I mustn't be a real Defender driver, don't have a beard and just slurped a latte.

But I do have an almost perpetual three day growth

Ah that's ok, a Defender driver would slurp a latte. So your all good.
Others would "sip" their drink and insist in referring to it as a beverage or specifying the type of non dairy, soy based composition whilst adjusting their beret Pom Pom and buffing the vinyl elbow patches in their tweed jacket.
