I just have to put my 20 cents worth in. I have not bought a mag for some 5 years, reason half of these idiots have no idea hence the reason they don;t drive landies.

Those smart and educated buy the best, "landrover", I am part of the smart population ! a landie owner. Fact is In the late sixties some very smart british engineers designed the rangie not with the aid of computor generated CAD drawing but with brains, drawing board and pencil. The Japs have tried to copy ever since and still can't match something from the sixties.

Just for the record my blood is green and gold.

going back to the first couple of posts in this thread, the whole thing started because Ace quoted some letters from overlander. LETTERS!
then everyone started bagging the magazines. if you read the editor's reply again, you'll see that he is actually supporting the landys.
the fact of the matter is, 4wd monthly now have 4 land rovers among their staffers, overlander are frequently jaunting around in a D3 and there are landy addicts (coming to the expo) from 4x4 australia.
the mags have really turned around from the snyde remarks of not-so-long-ago and are starting to see the light.
i'll be the first to agree there are some morons out there with a one-eyed view of their toyossan world, but that's their problem. if it wasn't for these clowns in their rice-burners, our vehicles would not look so good, (and their wouldn't be the whole "4wd killing machine" problem)

There is good and bad in all makes and models, however, I do find that the legendary status of Toyota is no longer valid. I have seen some very poor performance out of new toyotas recently and am not impressed.
A Hilux that struggled to make it up a dirt road without loosing traction ( empty and loaded 2003 model ) when the local koori and his clapped out VB commodore came and went with ease, even in the wet.
Two of the units seires 100 landruisers have stuffed gearboxes from towing a 2.5 tonne boat and trailer. The last gearbox to develop problems was at 12,000km. A cruiser with a wet connector to the fuel solenoid took two days to get dried out. We were a vehicle down with a very stupid fault. This one had 9,000km on the clock and 5th gear was stuffed.
As to towing, when trucks laden with 20+ tonnes are passing you up hills..... there have been a number of near misses due to the lack of performance. We are trying to get F250's as replacements.

The one that cracks me up the most is when people say that they'd get a Landcruiser or patrol over a discovery because they don't want to buy a foreign car!!!!!! what the.
On the subject of the mags personally i think most are pretty biased to who pays the most ad money but i think this is not always the journo but direction from the top. Exept for Ron moon, that guy is incredible and not in a good way he is so deep in the highest bidder for his comments pocket he couldn't see his way out.

We have mentioned Ron Moon before. His tag-a-long and book business is sponsered by Nissan. Can't tell your sponsor they make tractors!

There is a lot of information thats been passed down from generation to generation that apparently is still relevant according to the ignorasshole. The trucks are fine and have been for quite a while. The probs that Landys do have, like all vehicles and being realistic about it, are fairly minor compared to what the other brands have.

I still recall when touring Simpson not long after buying the Disco, and some Nissan fella telling me the Disco's were crap because the injectors are worth $2k ea to replace. Still never heard of anybody having to do this outside of accident damage. Jackass. :rolleyes:

How many G60's and FJ40's/55's do we still see travelling around, and just how reliable are these!!

It's funny, a mate of mine has been a landcruiser for as long as I can remember. Always had a couple in various stages of rebuild or wrecking, and one on the road.
He finally bought a brand new ute about 2 years ago, had nothing but problems with it and couldn't get Toyota to fix anything properly.
He finally got so ****ed off with it he traded it on a 2005 Rodeo twin cab.
