    New Buses

Two brand new high floor Volvo's arrived at the depot last week to replace some of the older manual buses on school runs. They are a Volvo B7R with a Volgren body and they look very niiiiiice. Pity I'm not a school run driver as I don't get to drive them.

The company has changed it's colourscheme from yellow to blue and white to match the government (STA) buses in Newcastle and Sydney.

Couple of shots of the drivers compartment and as can be seen on the left side of the second photo the ticket machine has not been installed, the wiring is there ready to attach.

Photo down the length of the bus. The buses can hold 78 people (sitting and standing) but unfortunately, no seat belts are installed.

Entrance door and steps into the bus, a high floor bus like this can not be used for normal service work as a service bus must be "low floor" and capable of kneeling to enable wheelchairs and people with disabilities to access the bus.

By way of comparison this is a "low floor" Volvo bus that is used on service work. Painted in the old colour scheme, they will be repainted as they become due for a major refit, which is some time away yet. They hold 68 people (sitting and standing).

I thought all new school buses in NSW required seat belts as of about a year ago? Maybe it was just foreshadowed.

I thought the same as you John, on a national level.

What a great way to make a quid Jim, sitting down looking out the window.

High floors are more versatile Pedro. With side bins they can also be utilized on day charter work. Better resale value after its first life too.

Exactly right Ian. We only use high floors for charter work, which we do a fair bit of.

I must admit I was surprised that no seat belts are installed, particularly after all the government chit chat regarding seat belts in school buses.
