I refuse to buy boots unless there made in Australia ..... I guess I'm down to only redback now. Even though I live in Ballarat, I don't think olivers actualy sell any aussie made boots do they ?

When looking for long lasting boots, look for ones which are manufactured with soles made by Vibram. Great soles that last forever - almost literally forever.

Aren't Mongrel (Victor) still made here ?
That's all I'll wear for work ATM, just found they lasted a bit better than Redback and Rossi's and I've found them comfortable for a safety boot.
Haven't bought Blunnies for twenty years, just killed them too quickly.
My favourite boots are US made Danner, Vibram sole, welt stitched, Gore Tex liner, but the heels are a little tall (a lot of US boots seem like that ?) and they are heavy....
Bought a French pair of Arche shoes in January.
Nicely made and very comfortable for a dress shoe.
Wow Victor shoes"...........last I heard that name was when I was wearing victor school shoes in the early sixties.

Apologies, too late to be useful - but here are the pics anyway.
- I found a couple of real bootmakers who will glue on LEATHER or RUBBER soles for around $120 to $160 per pair, which still makes it bearable seeing as I recall paying much less than $100 each pair. (on 'Special' )
To recap, the "urethane" material we now get on shoes seems to be a lower quality than it used to be, and it has a finite life as do all petro-chemical products. This life-time can be as low as 5 years...
Add to that, the store "possibly" requesting a lower-cost process...and unknown date of original manufacture...poor storage between then and now, - you get the picture !
The black shoes are still in dry weather use, and the brown ones both fractured right through the sole, in the same place. Both were worn once or twice a week-max- for the last 2 years.
For the WA locals, one is in Fremantle, the other is in Malaga area and both offer bespoke shoes for around $600 pair. Excellent value when you consider the lifetime of properly made shoes to perfectly fit your feet, and with better quality materials.
