I think the reputation of the motor was pretty good. They were used in Triumph sports cars up to the TR4? in the 60s and the Vanguards up until then until they used the Triumph 6.Quote:

I even recall that they were used in an Indian version of the Rover SD1 up until the 90s.
Now I am not sure but I looked under the bonnet of a Burmese built Mazda 4wd military vehicle in the late 90s and I think that it was a Vanguard motor in it, with an Updraft carburetor.!!!!
Its amazing where the tooling for some of these old motors turns up. I recall looking at a Nissan "Grinner" motor on a stand in a Mona Vale workshop in the 90s-or 00s and it was a BMC A series of all things. And the first Bluebirds that came to OZ had an A series, and they even bought blocks from BMC in the 60s.
