Crocodile Dundee was a a fictitious character played in a movie, no real knife was smuggled into USA.

But J. Depp smuggling his dogs into AUS was not fictitious , it was a REAL LIVE EVENT, you can't really compare the 2.

Really! Well you could knock me down with a feather right now. Who'd have thought that Croc Dundee wasn't real Does that mean that hot blonde he married in the movie wasn't really his wife?

I deal a bit with private jets coming direct from overseas in my work. We had one this summer that the day before arrival said they wanted to bring their little dog in to Tassie and could it be be on a fast track quarantine given they were only here for a few days.
quarantine, and the agriculture department, got quite excited about this. The answer was obviously no, but they made the point very clear, if it was on board it was to be destroyed, the captain and the operator would be fined (forget the number, but it was 5 figures).
They didn't bring the dog, no one got fined or destroyed. I'D be interested to know if the quarantine officials that cleared depps plane got into any trouble.

Look what happened with Equine flu that came in on race horses and the damage that did to the domestic horses who had never had any contact with the virus. With all the money spent on race horses who would have thought one of them would have been infected.

After WW1 all but one of the Australian horses didn't return. The rest were donated to the Indian Army, surrended to Egyptians to live out their lives in misery or euthanised by their troopers. Australian Military dogs up to Afghanistan were never permitted to return and they have to go through quarantine before they are returned.

If the laws we had in place twenty years ago were still in place, the Depp dogs would have had to spend a year in NZ before coming to Australia.

I was wondering who was going to bite first , well you won . I don't like little dogs , and I don't particularly like Depp , As far as I'm concerned they could have give them a jab , fined him then deported him . As I said this was turned into a circus . The incident was handled clumsily , heavy handed , and not very professionally by our Government representative. Surely a sober statement pointing out our quarantine laws, followed by another straight forward explanation of the Depp's responsibilities in the matter, and finally a statement that the dogs would be placed in quarantine until the Depps' left, would have presented a much more diplomatic, and indeed mature face to the World.


Instead, it looked & sounded like something out of a Simpsons episode. Bob
