PC v Mac Crap

Well folks, here it is 6 months down the road since I started moving all my business requirements from Mac Crap to PCs and not only have I got far more work done but I have even stopped loosing my hair.

For those of you who said I would have problems with the PCs, well you were correct. On one occasion after leaving the desktop PC on in standby mode for a little over three days, when I tried to bring it out of standby mode, it would only display the desktop without any mouse or keypad control so I turned it off and then after about a minute turned it back on and the PC has not missed a beat since.

There have been a few other simple problems but besides being more related to me not knowing what I was doing than an operating system problem, they were all solved with a phone call, try solving a problem with a phone call with a Mac Crap.

I use to attend a Mac uses club meeting once a month ( a mate called it my therapy meeting ) but as I have no intentions of using the Mac Craps in the foreseeable future I have not been to therapy meetings since Christmas, but I still get an E-mail from them every month telling me what's going to be on at the next meeting.

Try this for intelligence. Last month’s E-mail told of how they were going to be going through all the advantages on the latest version of OSX. This is OS 10.4. ( note this is the 4th complete rebuild in 4 years ) This month the E-mail was saying how exiting the next meeting was going to be as they were going to be showing how the patch or upgrade or what ever you want to call it, would fix and make OS 10.4 work better.

Now after only 1 month since OS 10.4 was released, OS 10.4.1 has already had to be provided to fix a brand new operating system and these clowns are boasting about it. ops:

Now call me nuts or what, but it you bought a new LR and after one month, they issued a recall for it, would you be out there telling everybody what a great move this is.

    I DON'T THINK SO.

They may have released a new operating system for the Macs but it seems the same mentality at Apple prevails, they just can’t get it right.

    Cheers

BTW, one of my Ipods has been sitting on the shelf of nearly 6 months because Apple has not resolved the problems THEY caused and if you look at the different Apple sites, heaps of other people are in the same boat.

I've been working on Macs for the last 7 years (design work) and I have never strayed from OS 9.2. OS X was never going to be debugged immediately, and I have to say that Apple have done a sterling job of keeping a stream of development that supported older machines for such a long time. I am holding out with the G4 and current OS because I see no need to change. It's only a 400, but it will still haul its way through a 4CP 40 page publication job no problems so long as it does, it stays!

I am forced to work on PCs nearly as much time per week, but I still don't like Windows and the shortcut keys require contorsions that my hands hate.

    G'day Drivesafe,

Sounds like you've had a hard time with your MACs. Rest assured though - Apple don't have a monopoly on the sort of issues you raise.

Don't get me wrong I'm no MAC disciple - in fact I look after a network of around 300 Windows PC's plus 15 or so mainly Windows servers.

But I really think it depends what you need your computer for - like all things certain equipment suits certain tasks.

after all....you wouldn't buy a toyota if you wanted a real 4x4 would you..

At work I do have about 6 MACs -we have a graphics studio in one part of the business - and without a doubt the MACs perform a role in there that is far superior to the PCs.

    Anyway... Just my thoughts..

Good to here the PC's are doing the job for you.

    Cheers, Mark

Hi MacMan and Bytemrk, I have 7 Macs. 5 are supposed to operate on OSX and 2 DO work very well with OS8.6.

The 5 Mac Craps using OSX are continually screwing up in one way or another.

I won’t go into full details, I’ve posted that before, but I have one Dual 1.25Ghz Tower with dual screens, heaps of external and internal HD and loads of pro video programs to the point where this one heap of crap alone has cost me close to $20,000 to set up and the S**TBOX has never operated properly from the day I bought it and since December it has been on for a total of less than 3 hours and I’m rapped because I have not had any major hassles while I’ve been trying to do my work ( thanks to switching to PCs ).

The video work I wanted to do was for one of my hobbies, a hobby I have all but given a miss to, thanks to the Mac Craps.
Their that bad, that I bought Motions in November last year and while in one of my many MANY attempts to get this heap to work properly, finally gave up and so Motions is still in the box.

One of these days I might sit down and try again to get this piece of S**T to work. But then again I might just take a hammer to it. I know which choice will fell the best.

I bought MX Studio at the same time I got Motions and this program was the straw that broke the camels back. For nearly a month I tried to get MX to do anything. Tried E-mailing Macromedia and they were about as useful as tits on a bull. You click on any of MX’s icons, it opens and then the beach ball starts to spin and thats it.

I’ve been using Macs since 1987 and up until OSX came out and I bought some OSX Macs, I very VERY rarely had a problem.

I have never been able to get all 5 Mac Craps operating properly at the same time and that’s even after paying to have them serviced by so called professionals. ( don't think there is any such thing as a Mac professional )

Enough about the Mac Craps, just thinking about these rip-off machines gets my blood boiling.

The point is, the PCs ARE working.

    Cheers

    Yawn

hmmmm SP2 for xp and a few days later a 20mb update or 2 dpending on what you have installed and what hardware you use.

all the players are afflicted with the same problems........... just to different degrees

if you have a working solution you have done well.

mac / pc bashing is the same religious experience as the toyota / landrover drivel.

both have their place, but niether are as good as OS/2 was 10 years ago IMHO... but hey who gives a toss.... go and do some work and make some more money to feed that rover habit!

oh and send me up the crap macs, i dont mind em for video work
