    (1) A person must not drive a vehicle without due care or attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road.
    (2) If a court convicts a person of an offence against this section that is an aggravated offence, the following provisions apply:
    (a) the maximum penalty for the offence is 12 months imprisonment; and
    (b) the court must order that the person be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for such period, being not less than 6 months, as the court thinks fit; and
    (c) the disqualification prescribed by paragraph (b) cannot be reduced or
mitigated in any way or be substituted by any other penalty or sentence.

Why are people blaming the judge? The judge surely has to make his/her decision based on the law as it is written and on the evidence presented. It isn't his/her fault if the laws have not been kept up to date or the prosecution doesn't present a strong enough case.
If they did more of this:

    (a) the maximum penalty for the offence is 12 months imprisonment;

We likely would start to see some results

And stop making Gaol a holiday camp... Hard labour, minimalist visitation that must be earned, limited facilities....

I had a quick google as I was curious, I could only fine one University study using a real car and very realistic moving scenery. They concluded that ice seriously affects driving ability so who are these so called experts and what are they basing their submissions on?

She was found not guilty of dangerous driving and failing to stop at a red light, but guilty of careless driving. No doubt she was also charged with and found guilty of driving under the influence of drugs.
There is a difference between not guilty and innocent. I think the Judge has made the right decision within the framework of the law and the argument presented. The idiots here are the lawyer and his expert mouthpieces for hire who, start with the result and work backward.
I would like to state that morally, I disagree with the finding.

Prolonged use of ice causes psychosis. Could a person suffering from Psychosis be said to be exercising due care and attention?

While ever we have a legal system and not a justice system. This will continue to occur.

Hired guns masquerading as "expert witnesses" are out there willing to sell their soul to make any point the defense wants made for the right price.

I agree that the judge can only rule on the laws as they stand but surely blind Freddy could see that any drug, be it a stimulant like Ice or a depressive will have some impairment on driver ability.

Just look at the conga line of arsehole lawyers wanting to defend terrorists and illegal immigrants. A lawyer once told me he loved the thrill of the chase. He didn't worry if the client was 100% guilty of the charge, he just wanted the opportunity to see if he could get him off and look for any technicality to do so. Good for the defendant that has the cash but what about the victim and society at large that have to live with the consequence of these imbeciles being let out back into the community let alone the precedent that is made.

Having watched people in the stand it is amazing how one wrong word, one small admission will be seized on and expanded into getting someone off.

I just hope I never end up there.

That headline appears to have been calculated to inflame rather than inform.

Saying, "Motorist who struck schoolboy acquitted ..." gives the impression that the motorist got off scot free.

As is often the case, the detail in the article shows that the headline is misleading; probably deliberately so.
