Our Halloweenis a Christianised version of the ancient festival Samhein which was held at the start of winter when it was beieved that the spirits of the dead went house to house demanding food in exchange for not destroying the food you had saved up to get through the winter. So, any kid who comes around threatening to raid my fridge is not going to be welcome. The hose is waiting. Bah humbug!

It's not my scene, but I googled this:
    Best MP3 players of 2015 - CNET
The Sony walkman offering looks good, and easily upgraded with SD card to take additional storage. Plus it's solid state tech these days, where, iirc, the 160Gb ipod was actually a mechanical hard drive?

If you get a phone message from a bloke who says he is from the ATO and there is a determination against you so call a certain number - don't!
Instead ring the ATO and report it as its a current scam.
The scum scared our daughter, a single mother student, with this rubbish. I'd like the chance to express my disgust to the scammer personally.

So instead of giving lollies to other peoples kids (and vertically challenged adults under sheets pretending to be kids to get free lollies) , what is an acceptable 'trick' part of the 'trick or treat' phrase that will conclude the unwelcome door knock and expectation of free sugar?

I.e. can I show them my yo-yo trick where I make it spin at the bottom and give it a flick to go up again?
Or where I put little flaps on the back of my paper planes to give them a bit more lift and correct some roll? Card tricks might be

If everyone would take the trick option, then I'm sure kids wouldn't get as excited by the whole weird american thing and it would eventually go away...maybe.

They get really excited when they see me opening the door with a big grin on my face,,,,,,
Then the trick is, tell them them, "Sorry kids, that's an American thing, this is Australia,, see ya".

That's not good - I've had whooping cough and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. My sympathies. You are not going to be a happy little black duck for a while, unfortunately.

    Pertussis: The 100 day cough.

A big problem for the tin lids, particularly the unimmunised and children of vaccine refuser parents.

A lot of the pneumonia that causes the death of the elderly is actually the result of pertussis, even though they don't have the whoop cough experienced by the very young (size of the airways).

There is advice that older adults, who are about to have a grandchild (or great grandchild) and are likely to have close contact with the infant, should consult their GP about having a DTPa booster (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis vaccine).

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
