While I can’t post a link, John Cadogans latest video on YouTube is quite good - it’s about the new Wranglers 1 Star safety rating being confirmed by ANCAP last week but he gives both barrels to ANCAP and Euro NCAP about the means of testing as well as FCA about how bad the Wrangler actually is where it counts. Worth a watch.

Probably right - they wouldn't want the Hilux to lose its perceived 'Unbreakable' status. I'm not convinced the 2.8 diesel is going to live a long and happy life like the 3.0 predecessor either. I've got to get 2 more years from this vehicle and I doubt I'll look at buying it from the fleet company after that which I was half considering at some stage.

I was following a very late model Lolux last week that was leaving an impressive oil smoke trail for fifteen km.

You don't see too many cars doing that these days, and particularly not near new examples!

Didn’t know it was still going - this won’t help I don’t think.

Well after 3 1/2 years and 150,000km the mighty Hilux had a massive fart and **** the DPF today - much smoke and merriment (embarrassment) ensued as the vehicles behind me almost ran off the road to get out of the way of the smoke screen I created. Straight to Toyota who were great and put me in a courtesy car straight away to keep me on the road, but DPF's for Hiluxes are thin on the ground due to so many being required so often. Mines 3rd in line at my local dealer and won't be available to be fitted until late next week. It is however being covered under the recall they are doing (not that it would cost me) and the vehicle is out of warranty so anyone that owns one can get this repair done for zip at the moment.

Still waiting on a DPF - I'm told they'll have one on Friday when it's in for a service and that the'll do it then. It has finally thrown a fault up too - before now it's just been clouds of smoke here and there. Now it's full and wants a checkup.

Called the dealer and asked if this was something above and beyond what it was already doing - their reply was 'You probably shouldn't be driving it until it's fixed'. My response was 'It's ok, I only have a 350KM run tomorrow so not far' - they weren't impressed and said I shouldn't do that many KM on it before it's fixed, but I'm sure as **** not driving a Yaris 350KM tomorrow so it better hang in.

No idea if they still make them, but the Dealer I use has 20 odd of them as courtesy vehicles - autos too... They’re bloody aweful.
