Can we change the subject Dianna? All this conversation is doing is giving the Spirit of Tasmania operators an excuse to jack up their prices.
(I'm pretty sure that my relatives have had a motion, but that's another subject)
Hi John
Yes as a geologist you are very aware of tectonic movements, however as Australia was connected to Antarctica through Tasmania to form part of the supercontinent Gondwana and now Tasmania is no longer attached to Australia. It would be a reasonable hypothesis that Australia is moving Northward at a greater velocity than Tasmania, more than that Australia has bumped into New Guinea causing the Owen Stanley Ranges would be secondary evidence of Australia's Northward movement and therefore away from Tasmania!![]()

Actually not true, if Tassie and the North Island were further apart it would save them doing circles out in Bass Strait.
The timetable is based upon the times the Stevedores are available to work, the trip could take less time if the ferries could dock earlier in the morning, but that would require the workers to get up at O'Dark hundred.

Can't they get a boat with self parking features like so many new cars, or do the stevedores have to feed the meter?

Actually Australia and Tasmania are part of the same tectonic plate (as is New Guinea), and there is no significant relative movement between the mainland and Tasmania. The Owen Stanley Range is within the Australia plate but is the result of the northward movement of the Australia plate bringing it into collision with the Pacific plate.

I concentrated so hard 'til I went blue
Everything I did came out grotesque

So now I sit alone, in a cloud of stinking vapour

I fear the words that I did put upon the paper
Will smudge when I wipe my ass!
The embarrasment of failure was undenied
I had tried around the clock
again I started and again failed and cried

Yep. I just flushed a writers block.
I've been worried about flushed, but then remembered that it is beetroot season! Phew.
