Land Rover to make a "car"

    Let's hope it doesn't happen.

It's really only car based, as opposed to just a car.

Anyway, if it helps keep Land Rover financially viable, i'm all for it.

I don't see the point .. is that segment of the market in need of another model to the extent that Land Rover needs to fill it? Why would anybody purchase a road based small car with 4x4 pedigree??

Looks like the original idea for the hippo, now if they could give us the original alloy Disco with a decent V8 I'd be interested.....

It will just end up being a focus or something similar with a land rover badge, why not make it a newer version of the freelander and make it a genuine soft roader, drop the price 10k and kick the rav 4's arse and then slot the freelander in the middle to compete against the new jeep which appears to have shrunk in the wash. Give it low range as you say, jack the suspension up 50mm from what it is now and sell it for the current price, at least then the 40k price tag for the base model is something close to value for money. Land rover shot themselves when they opted not to sell the freelander with low range, big mistake. Matt

LR have repeatedly stated they will never make a 2WD. Now, a selectable 2/4WD they have already made, so maybe that's it. Although I reckon if a vehicle is able to drive all four wheels, then it should do so all the time. None of this selectable or on-demand 4WD, constant 4WD is the go.

Anyway, I don't much care about the Freelander, where's the Defender replacement?????
